LMG Book Club: Wild by Cheryl Strayed

Wild by Cheryl Strayed

This month’s addition to the LMG Book Club is Wild by Cheryl Strayed.

What would you do if you felt your world was falling apart around you?

Buy new shoes? Head to a desert island? Sit at home in your pyjamas? Or head on a 1,100 mile hike of the Pacific Crest Trail? Well, the latter is exactly what Cheryl Strayed did.

After the death of her Mother, a series of affairs and the breakdown of her marriage, she quit her job and set off on the long distance trail from the Mojave Desert to the Oregon/Washington border.

I would love to say that I found this story both utterly thrilling and totally inspiring, unfortunately I found it totally inspiring but also incredibly frustrating – You would expect someone heading off on an adventure like this to have done their research, to have read about hiking conditions, to have purchased the correct equipment and clothing, but instead it seems to be the story of someone who is infuriating, unprepared, disorganised and rather selfish in her pursuits – However I can’t help but be inspired by anyone who goes on this sort of adventure and achieves their goal.

Have you read Wild by Cheryl Strayed?

What did you think?

Have you been inspired to do something similar?

I am always looking for suggestions of books that can be added to the LMG Book Club.
Have you read anything that inspired you to visit a particular place, or rekindled lost memories of a previous trip?
Let me know in the comments.
