Incredible wildlife, stunning landscapes, enchanting national parks and fascinating cultures and history: Africa is a continent crying out to be visited and explored, but with 54 countries this means that there are a huge number of places to visit and things to do during your travels, which is why I’ve created my African travel wish list of possibilities.
My African Travel Wish List
Botswana
If you want to go on safari but still have a feel of luxury then from what I’ve read, this is the place to go – it’s also the best place to see meerkats in the wild, which definitely puts it on my wish list. Others areas to admire are the Okavango Delta and the Kalahari Desert, both of which would provide unforgettable travel memories.
Egypt
If you only do one thing in Egypt it should be to visit The Valley of the Kings, marvel at the pyramids and learn about a fascinating ancient civilisation. Egypt isn’t just about deserts though, there are cities with varying cultures and architecture and even coastal cities where you can enjoy views of the Mediterranean.
Kenya
From watching incredible wildlife on safari to heading into the city of Nairobi and experiencing Kenyan culture. The Serengeti is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World so it would be almost criminal to visit Kenya and not experience this incredible landscape.
Morocco
I’ve visited Marrakech and would love to return, but I would also love to see more of this beautiful and exciting country. The “blue city” of Chefchaouen and the lovely coastal location of Essaouira make popular alternatives to the hustle and bustle of Marrakech and Fes. I am particularly keen to visit Fes and experience wandering the streets and exploring the souks there.
South Africa
I’m not entirely sure where I would even start with visiting South Africa: from busy cities, stunning vineyards, national parks and beautiful beaches, it’s definitely a destination that would require an extended amount of time to explore rather than a quick flying visit. It would definitely be worth it though.
Zimbabwe
Head out on another safari and spot The Big Five, explore national parks, World Heritage-listed archaeological sites and then stare in wonder at the incredible Victoria Falls. It is also often thought to be one of the safest and friendliest of all African countries.
